French manufacturer Renault started its official operations in Bangladesh through local dealership Karnaphuli Wheels Ltd, following a grand launching ceremony at the Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel on 19th April, 2018. Sumit Sawhney, Country CEO and Managing Director, Groupe Renault, Indian Subcontinent Operations; Saber Hossain Chowdhury, Managing Director, Karnaphuli Group, and Amir Hossain Amu, Hon. Two cars will be spearheading Renault's foray into the Bangladeshi market – the 1000cc KWID Climber hatchback, and 1500cc Duster crossover SUV. Priced competitively, they are expected to do well in the Bangladeshi market, according to Managing Director of Groupe Renault, Sumit Sawhney, who stated Renault is one of the top European manufacturers operating in the Indian subcontinent.
"We will be watching the market very closely – we believe the Bangladeshi market has immense potential and we have entered it at the right time with the right kind of product while ensuring the after sales experience is of a global standard," said Mr. Sawhney.
Minister of Industry, Amir Hossain Amu, stressed in his speech that Bangladesh needs to move towards assembly and manufacture of vehicles, so that the country can meet the growing demand for motor vehicles.
