Rape at MC College: accused Tarek also placed on 5-day remand

Another accused -- Tarequl Islam Tarek -- was also placed on a five-day remand in a case filed over the gang-rape of a woman at Murari Chand College in Sylhet on Friday.

Chief Magistrate Md Abul Kashem passed the order after Indranil Bhattacharya, inspector of Shah Poran Police Station and also the investigation officer of the case, produced him before the court around this afternoon with a seven-day remand prayer, said Amulya Kumar Chowdhury, assistant commissioner (prosecution) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police.

Earlier today, the same court granted 5-day remand for another accused Mahfuzur Rahman Masum.

On Monday, three accused -- Saifur Rahman, Arjun Lasker and Robiul Islam -- were placed on five-day remand while three other accused -- Shah Mahbubur Rahman Roni, Rajon Miah and Md Ainuddin -- were placed on five-day remand yesterday.

Husband of the victim filed the case on Friday night with Shah Poran Police Station, mentioning names of six people and 2-3 unnamed men.

Law enforcement agencies already arrested all the six named accused along with two others connected with the case.
