University of Chittagong Accounting Communication Club organizes BIZ STAR: Season III
One of the biggest business case competitions from Chittagong, ACC Presents BIZ STAR: Season III Powered by Chittagong Dine, just concluded with its prize giving ceremony on Saturday, 8th May. The Grand Finale took place virtually on Friday, May 7, 2021 amidst much apprehension and ceremonial, where the seven finalist teams involved in the ultimate challenge for a taste of triumph.
With the theme of this year's event "Bring Your Businesses Brilliance", the event was launched on April 6, 2021. Since the start of the competition, it has sought out the best talents from universities across the country.
More than 450 undergrad students from more than 20 universities across the country participated in the competition. The first round of the competition was held online where participants were given a strategic and management related case on which they submitted a solution through a PPT file. Succeeding that round, 35 teams qualified for the semi-final round, and they submitted a recorded video presentation on their given first round solution.
In the grand finale, the 7 finalist teams received a new case related to marketing and have given a live presentation in front of judges. It was the most challenging task as they were given 8 minutes to pitch their solution and had to face an intense Q&A session from the judges where they picked up minute details and demanded insightful replies. After battling with more than hundreds of teams from different universities in two rounds of cut-throat competition, seven teams were selected as the finalists: Barely Managing from IBA, Jahangirnagar University; Invaders from University of Chittagong; SINBAD N CO. and Team Bottom Fraggers both from University of Dhaka; Team Wolfpack and Cognitive Dissonance both from Bangladesh University of Professionals; Team Absolute Zero from Khulna University of Engineering & Technology.
In this event, Bohubrihi was the E-Learning partner, Hotel Hyperion Sea World as the hospitality partner, DDN as the internet partner, The Daily Star as the print media partner, Chanel 24 as the broadcasting partner, CU Journalists Association as the media partner and finally Radio Carnival as the radio partner.
In the prize giving ceremony, the winning teams were awarded with a total amount of 50,000 BDT and additional gifts and vouchers from our sponsors.
Cognitive Dissonance was named champion and awarded 25,000 BDT. SINBAD & CO. and Team Absolute Zero obtained the 1st runner-up and 2nd runner-up position respectively and awarded with 15,000 BDT and 10,000 BDT.
There were also 2 workshops organised for the participants on 'How to Crack a Business Case' conducted by Sagar Mazumdar, COO of SkillHub and 'Acing the Video Presentation' conducted by Md, Sohan Haidear, managing director & CEO of Smartifier Academy. These workshops assisted the participants in understanding and approaching the challenges of the 1st round and semi-final with more insights and perceptions.
In the prize giving ceremony, Mirza Nusayer Mursalin, convener of the event said, "Today's world is introducing us to a significant change with different tastes, belief and values, in which business is playing an integral part. Therefore, the prime concern of BIZ STAR: Season III was to provide the opportunity for the business enthusiasts so that they can amplify their business ideas and acquaint with corporate cultures."
Accounting Communication Club (ACC) is one of the prominent co-curricular clubs of University of Chittagong. It has always been the platform for students of the Department of Accounting to help them to obtain business competence and leadership ability. With these objectives in mind, ACC organizes competitions aiming to provide undergraduates the understanding of real business.
