Tarun League leader killed in Jessore

Miscreants killed a local leader of Tarun League by hacking and blasting bombs in Jessore city last night.

Monirul Islam, 38, organising secretary of party, was a resident in Talikhola area of the city, Bangla daily Prothom Alo reports quoting police and local political leaders.

An activist of Jubo League, Santosh Ghosh, 36, was also injured in the attack.

Monirul was critically injured as seven to eight miscreants threw several bombs at them at Palbari intersection around 11:00pm.

After the bomb attack, he was indiscriminately hacked by the attackers, Md Samsuddoha, inspector of Kotwali Police Station, told Prothom Alo.

Monirul died when he was rushed to hospital by locals.

Mahmud Hasan, office secretary of district unit Awami League, confirmed his post with Tarun League, adding that Monirul was also involved with the politics of ruling Awami League.
