Khaleda’s condition improved: BSMMU chief
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s physical condition has improved, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University’s (BSMMU) director said today.
“She is better today than how she was yesterday,” BSMMU Director Brig Gen AK Mahbubul Haque told reporters at the hospital.
His statement comes 24 hours after Khaleda was hospitalised at BSMMU with high blood sugar level and pain in her joints due to arthritis.
“We will decide further on her treatment tomorrow, after further evaluation,” he said.
Regarding her blood sugar levels, he said that Khaleda is taking her usual medicine.
On the note of Khaleda’s unwillingness to take treatment at BSMMU over allegations of improper treatment, the BSMMU director declined to make a comment on it.
“I am joined here (BSMMU) only two weeks ago. I cannot make a comment over it without a comprehensive understanding of the matter,” he said.
“I think she is satisfied with the service we have given her. She is talking fluently with us and receiving us with cordial manner,” he described further.
The matter of Khaleda’s treatment, whether it will be according to her preference or jail code, has been an issue for the BNP for quite some time.
Khaleda has been in jail since February 8 last year when a special court awarded her five years in prison in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
The High Court later extended her jail term to 10 years in the case. She was also convicted in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case and handed a seven-year term.
