BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today urged people to make a fresh pledge for restoring the country’s democracy and free party chief Khaleda Zia from jail through movement.

"On this great day, we want to call upon all people to take a vow to restore democracy, uphold the spirit of the country’s Liberation War and free mother of democracy Khaleda Zia,” he said while talking to reporters after placing floral wreaths at National Mausoleum at Savar.

The BNP leader said: "We must restore democracy and ensure the release of our leader (Khaleda Zia) through movement."

Flanked with BNP leaders, Fakhrul claimed that the ruling Awami League government has destroyed the spirit and ideals of the Liberation War in 1971.

He also accused the ruling party of establishing a one-party rule.

From the Savar National Mausoleum, the BNP leaders went to BNP founder Ziaur Rahman’s grave at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar and paid homage to him by placing wreaths there.
