Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today said his party will select candidates ahead of the upcoming general election based on their popularity.
“The leaders whom people love will not be deprived. We will pick candidates by examining their popularity,” Quader said while addressing a rally at Natore Railway Station this afternoon.
An Awami League delegation, led by Obaidul Quader, is on a train tour to carry out electioneering in northern districts today.
The AL delegation left Kamalapur Railway Station in Dhaka by train this morning and is scheduled to hold more than 11 rallies at railway stations in Tangail, Pabna, Natore, Bogra, Joypurhat, Dinajpur and Nilphamari districts.
Claiming that performance reports of all aspirants are in the hand of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Quader said, “Five agencies have given their reports about popularity of the possible candidates and decision will be taken at an appropriate time in this regard.”
About BNP’s threat to wage a tough movement, Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, said the party will not be given the space to hit the streets within the next two or three months.
“BNP did nothing in the last 10 years. It will not be able to do anything within the next three months,” the Awami League leader said.
