EC formation: LDP hands 17 proposals to president

Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) chief Oli Ahmed today said they presented a 17-point proposal to the president during talks over reconstitution of the new Election Commission.

Oli Ahmed was talking to journalists after the meeting with President Abdul Hamid at Bangabhaban this afternoon.

The proposals include formulating a law on reconstitution of the EC and appointing the chief election commissioner and other commissioners upon agreement among the political parties.

The party also placed a proposal for forming a five-member search committee to suggest the names of possible candidates to be appointed as the CEC and other ECs, Oli Ahmed said.

The president assured them that he would do his best to resolve the lack of understanding among the political parties and prepare a framework to reconstitute an acceptable EC, the LDP chief added.

An 11-member delegation of LDP led by its chief Col Oli Ahmed held an hour-long discussion from 3:00pm till 4:00 pm.

After the meeting with LDP, the president held talks with a 12-member delegation of Bangladesh Krishok Sramik Janata League led by Kader Siddiqui.
