Khelafat Majlish today proposed President Abdul Hamid to become chief of an election-time all-party government for holding a free, fair and inclusive general election in 2019.

The party, a component of BNP-led 20-party alliance, came up with the proposal while holding talks with the president at Bangabhaban on formation of the next Election Commission (EC).

This is for the first time, a political party proposed the president to become the chief of the polls-time government during the talks with him.

A 12-member delegation of the party led by its Secretary General Ahmed Abdul Quader submitted a seven-point proposal including enactment of a law in line with the constitution to form the new EC.

Emerging from the hour-long meeting that started around 5:00pm, Quader told reports that they urged the president to form a search committee headed by a former chief justice if it is not possible to formulate the law before formation of the EC.
