The Supreme Court today fixed July 9 for hearing a petition filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia seeking review of its May 16 order that asked the High Court to hear and dispose of her appeal in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case by July 31.

Chamber judge of the Appellate Division of the SC Justice Hasan Foez Siddique fixed the date after a brief hearing on the petition. The apex court chamber judge sent the petition to its full bench and fixed July 9 for its hearing.

The Appellate Division on May 16 upheld a HC order that granted four months’ bail to Khaleda in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case and also asked the HC bench led by Justice M Enayetur Rahim to hear and dispose of her appeal by July 31.

Khaleda in June submitted a petition to the SC seeking review of its order that asked the HC bench to hear and dispose of her appeal by July 31.

The HC bench led by Justice Enayetur Rahim is scheduled on July 8 to start hearing on the appeal filed by Khaleda on February 20 challenging the lower court verdict that on February 8 sentenced her to five years’ imprisonment in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.
