Oikyafront briefs diplomats
Jatiya Oikyafront today briefed foreign diplomats about the country’s latest political situation and its demands and goals to hold the upcoming general election in a free, fair and inclusive manner.
Gono Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain briefed the ambassadors and high commissioners of different countries at Lakeshore Hotel about the contemporarily political affairs in light of the seven-point demand and 11-point goal of the newly floated alliance.
JSD President ASM Abdur Rab was talking to reporters after emerging from the meeting with the diplomats that began around 3:10pm.
“We held a closed-door meeting with the diplomats and shared our seven-point demand and 11- point goal. The meeting was held successfully,” Rab said.
When asked about the issues of discussion, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “We have talked on several issues but nothing more can be said in this regard.”
Written copies containing the seven-point demand and 11-point goal of the Oikyafront were also distributed among the diplomats.
Jatiya Oikyfront, during the meeting, also stressed the need for congenial atmosphere in holding of the next general election in a participatory manner, meeting source said.
The issue of BNP’s imprisoned Chairperson Khaleda Zia was also discussed during the meeting, the source said.
Fakhrul welcomed the diplomats while BNP Standing Committee Members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Moudud Ahmed, Jamiruddin Sircar, Rafiqul Islam Mia and Mirza Abbas and several top leaders of the Oikyafront attended the programme.
Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder Zafrullah Chowdhury and Barrister Moinul Hossian, an adviser to the previous militarily controlled caretaker government also participated in the meeting.
