BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today underscored the need for finding out facts behind the intelligence failure to detect the impending BDR mutiny in 2009.

“The facts behind the intelligence failure will have to find out through a transparent investigation,” Fakhrul made while addressing a programme at the Institution of Engineers’ Bangladesh in Dhaka this noon.

The demand came a day after the High Court, in its observation on BDR carnage case, asked the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) to form a probe body to investigate why the intelligence unit of then BDR failed to detect the impending 2009 mutiny.

Claiming that a deep-rooted conspiracy was on to turn the country into a dysfunctional one, Fakhrul also stressed the need for probing the matter.

Fakhrul raised a question about motive of the Pilkhana carnage said the mutiny took place when a new government was formed.

“What was its motive? Was it carried out only to plunge the then government or Bangladesh into a dysfunctional condition?” the BNP leader said.

Who have become beneficiaries by killing 57 high- and mid-ranking army officers through the mutiny and who were behind the carnage? Fakhrul raised question.

The BNP leader also criticised the then concerned authority for passing time without taking an immediate action to deal with the mutiny and said many probe bodies were formed in this connection but no report has been made public.

“We have the rights to know the matter,” Fakhrul said.
