A BNP leader was shown arrested in Rajshahi city early today in a case filed in connection with Tuesday’s crude bombs blast at a BNP rally there.
Motiur Rahman Montu, the general secretary of Rajshahi district BNP committee, was picked up by law enforcers from his residence around 1:30am, our Rajshahi correspondent reports quoting Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Commissioner AKM Hafiz Akther.
The arrest came after an audio clip of his conversation with another leader on the crude bomb blasts was recovered by police, the commissioner claimed while addressing a ‘Meet the Press’ event at RMP headquarters today.
Earlier, police arrested one Himel from Bosepara area of the city in this connection and his statement also led to the arrest of the BNP leader, the police official said.
According to RMP assistant commissioner Iftekhayer Alam, the audio clip is said to be of conversation between Montu and BNP central leader Taiful Islam Tipu.
In the audio clip, Montu was heard telling Natore-based BNP central leader Taiful Islam Tipu that the crude bomb blasts at a BNP rally on July 17, was carried out by BNP’s organizing secretary Ruhul Kuddus Talukder Dulu to please the party’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman.
The audio clip was leaked on a Facebook group ‘Agami er Rajshashi’ after which it went viral, reports our correspondent.
According to the audio, Montu claimed that Dulu and another Rajshahi BNP leader Shaheen Shawkat were responsible for the attack.
