Youth in Dhaka arrested under pornography act for blackmailing Indian minor

Cyber police have arrested a youth from Dhaka's Mugda area on charge of child pornography for allegedly blackmailing an Indian minor by threatening to leak her videos online.
The accused, KM Mirajul Azam (28), a private university student, was arrested on December 29 from his house on Atish Dipankar Road in Mugda.
Law enforcers also seized his mobile phone. Mirajul used various social media IDs to disseminate child pornography, they said.
The Cyber Terrorism Investigation Team of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime revealed the information today.
"He demanded Rs 2,50,000 from an Indian minor through a WhatsApp ID by threatening to leak her personal pictures and videos on social media," Sayed Nasirullah, senior assistant commissioner of the Cyber Terrorism Investigation Team, who led the operation, told The Daily Star.
The victim informed the cyber police about the matter through Facebook messenger and provided information on the accused.
The team then conducted cyber patrols through various social media monitors, identified the location of the accused, and arrested him.
Sayed Nasirullah said that the accused used to contact children and collect, store and supply pornographic images and videos of them online -- encouraging them to provide their own images and videos.
He used to collect photos and videos from local and foreign children. He then opened accounts on various websites and uploaded them.
A case has been filed with Ramna Police Station under the Pornography Act.
