Bangladeshi Prof Tariqul Islam recognised as successful researcher in Malaysia
Bangladeshi Professor Dr Tariqul Islam has been recognised as a successful researcher in Malaysia.
He received the Malaysia Research Assessment (MyRA) Award from the country's renowned higher education institution, University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).
Prof Tariqul received the award from UKM's Deputy Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Abdul Wahab Mohammad at a function held at the auditorium of the university in Kuala Lumpur yesterday (May 18, 2022).
The purpose of the 'Malaysia Research Assessment' (MyRA) Award is to improve the performances, recognise and inspire the academicians.
UKM is one of the five universities in Malaysia declared a research university since 2006.
Tariqul teaches in the Electrical, Electronic and Systems Engineering department at UKM. He is leading a research group and students from different countries of the world including Bangladesh are engaged in research work under his supervision.
Dr Tariqul has won several gold medals and has been a top researcher at UKM for many years. He has supervised about 30 PhD students and 20 theses MSc students. He has provided consultation to more than 10 postdoctoral and visiting researchers.
In addition, he is a visiting professor at Kyushu Institute of Technology in Japan. He is the author of about 500 research journal articles on various topics related to antennas, metamaterials, and microwave imaging and submitted 22 inventory patents.
Tarikul was a student of Notre Dame College in Dhaka. He completed his post-graduation in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Dhaka University.
He is conducting collaborative research with various universities around the world including universities in Japan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar on diagnostic instruments such as breast and head tumours.
He is also actively involved in the development of small antennas for nanosatellites.
Expressing his feelings about the recognition, Tariqul said Bangladeshi researchers are working in different countries with reputations.
"Malaysia is no exception, I am feeling proud to prove it". He said he is ready to cooperate with Bangladeshi researchers.
