Some child rights organisations yesterday expressed deep concerns over the use of children in political activities including processions, rallies and hartals, in recent times.
The organisations in a joint statement also protested the political violence to which children fell victims.
At least 18 children, including Rahima, Sumi, and Monir, were wounded critically in such violence in the last six months in the country, said a press release.
They demanded that the government and all political parties take necessary steps so that no child falls victim to such violence anymore.
As a signatory country of the UN Convention on the Rights of Child, the organisations urged every section of the society, including political parties, civil society and media, to help stop use of children in political activities.
The organisations are Manusher Jonno Foundation, Bangladesh Shishu Adhikar Forum, Save the Children, Sonar Bangla Foundation, Solidarity, Child Rights Governance Assembly, Uddipan, Drishti, Community Participation and Development, Vafusd, Ghashful, Sohay, Nabolok Parishad, Ship, and Abhas.
