BNP rally: Bus owners threaten strike in Rajshahi division
Transport owners today threatened to enforce an indefinite transport strike in all districts of Rajshahi division from December 1 ahead of BNP's Rajshahi divisional rally scheduled for December 3.
Rajshahi Divisional Road Transport Owners' Association made the announcement at a press briefing after holding a meeting in Natore this afternoon, report our Rajshahi and Natore correspondents.
"If the administration does not fulfil their 11-point demand, including the amendment of Road transport Act, and stopping the operation of three-wheelers and other illegal vehicles by November 30, the plying of buses and trucks in all districts of Rajshahi division will remain closed from December 1 for an indefinite period, said Safkat Manjur Biplob, president of the association.
The BNP started its series of rallies by holding the first one in Chattogram on October 12. The strikes were called by transport owners and workers ahead of all the following rallies in various cities, except in Chattogram and Cumilla.
Talking to our Natore correspondent, BNP's Rajshahi Divisional Organising Secretary Ruhul Kuddus Talukder Dulu said the transport owners and workers have made such announcements in support of the ruling Awami league government.
The BNP rally in Rajshahi division will be the most successful and largest one in the country, he said, adding that the government will not be able to stop the flow of people by halting public transport.
