Shadik Kayem files case against 18 individuals, 15 Facebook pages including Earki over cyber harassment

Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) Vice President Abu Shadik Kayem today filed a case with Shahbagh Police Station against 18 individuals and more than 15 Facebook pages, including the satirical platform "Earki," alleging cyber harassment.

According to the case statement, most of the accused are linked to BNP-affiliated groups.

Shahbagh Police Station's Officer-in-Charge, Khalid Mansur, confirmed the filing of the case to The Daily Star.

Abu Shadik alleged that the accused circulated "edited, obscene, and defamatory content" targeting him, other Ducsu leaders, and female students, creating a "hostile online environment".

Among those named are political activists Hasib Akon, organisational secretary of Zia Cyber Force in Chattogram; Rofiq, office secretary of Khagrachhari Chhatra Dal; Shikdar Biplob, joint convener of Ward-5 Swechchhasebak Dal in Dhaka South; and Anamul Hoq Shamim, publicity secretary of Zia Cyber Force living in Riyadh.

Others include Kamal Hossain, SM Amirul, Ariyan Sujon, Rayhan Gazi, Sabbir Ahmed, Jahidul Islam, Rakibul Islam, Munna Rahman, and Yousuf Sorkar.

Anamul Haque Shanto, Ashiqur Rahman, and Saif Al Mahmud were also accused of spreading vulgar and defamatory posts.

Facebook profile links of all the accused were submitted to the police. More than 15 Facebook pages, including DU Insiders, Katherkella, Bangladesh Ultraverse, Rog Porichorja Kendra, Voice of Ducsu, Earki, and BotGPT, were named for sharing obscene and defamatory content. Two pages -- Ducsu Kanthoshor and Amar Ducsu -- were accused of distorting statements of Ducsu representatives, said the case statement.

The case also highlights obscene, AI-generated images targeting Ducsu Liberation War and Democratic Movement Secretary Fatima Tasnim Jhuma and student Umma Uswatul Rafia.

In a Facebook post, Abu Shadik said fabricated posts, photocards, and AI-generated images were used to spread propaganda and obscene content targeting Ducsu leaders. He added that he handed all relevant links and technical details to the police cyber unit.
