Anti-mosquito drive: DNCC, DSCC hand out fines totalling Tk 7.47 lakh
Mobile courts of two city corporations today fined owners of different under-construction buildings and markets, including a ward councillor, Tk 7.47 lakh as they found Aedes mosquito larvae at the sites.
On the first day of a 10-day combing operation, mobile courts of the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) handed out fines totalling Tk 4.41 lakh and filed 15 cases against owners of houses where Aedes mosquito larvae were found, said a DNCC press release.
A DNCC mobile court fined an under-construction shopping centre at Rupnagar Tk 1 lakh site. Ward-7 councillor Tofazzal Hossain is one of the shareholders of the shopping centre.
Tofazzal told the Daily Star that their workers clear water on three days every week but during the Eid vacation it did not happen as workers were on leave, allowing Aedes larvae to breed.
Other mobile courts of the DNCC fined Tk 3.41 lakh at different areas of the DNCC, added the release.
Eleven mobile courts of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) handed out fines totalling Tk 3,06,500 to owners of 23 buildings, including Bombay Sweets, as they found Aedes mosquito larvae.
The courts also filed 23 cases against the building owners, said a press release issued by the DSCC.
Executive magistrate Md Mamun Miah said they fined Tk 50,000 to Bombay Sweets as they found Aedes mosquito larvae in its basement.
