8 injured in Ctg polls violence
Eight people were injured after the supporters of two rival chairman candidates of the upcoming Khagaria Union Parishad election clashed in Chattogram today.
According to locals and police sources, the incident happened between supporters of Awami League candidate Akter Hossain and independent candidate Jasim Uddin while they were conducting election campaign at Jorar Kul in Satkania upazila around 11:30 am, reports our Chattogram staff correspondent.
After the altercation, both the groups swopped on one another with guns and sharp weapons, they said.
On information, police rushed to the spot but the supporters of the candidates fled the scene, said locals.
At least eight people were injured during the clash. Four to five received splinter injuries, they said.
However, Dr Rashid Ahmed, a doctor at Satkania Upazila Health Complex, said none was admitted to the hospital from Khagaria union for receiving treatment.
Contacted, Abdul Jalil, officer-in-charge of Satkania Police Station, said they heard about the clash.
"On information, we rushed the spot but found no one," he confirmed.
The injured people were taken to Dohazari Health Complex by the locals, the OC said, adding, no case was filed and none was arrested in this connection.
"The situation in the area is now under control," he said.
When contacted, Fatema Tuj Johra, UNO of Satkania upazila, said she was informed by police about the clash but no complaint was filed.
However, The Daily Star correspondent could not contact Akter or Jasim for their comments.
