JP candidate Hafiz wins Thakurgaon-3

Jatiya Party candidate Hafiz Uddin Ahmed has won the Thakurgaon-3 by-elections bagging 84,047 votes.

His nearest contestant, independent candidate Gopal Chandra Roy secured 50,309 votes, as per unofficial results.

The Awami League-backed 14-party alliance candidate, Workers' Party leader Yeasin Ali, suffered a huge defeat by winning only 11,356 votes.

Among the other candidates, Bangladesh National Front candidate Sirajul Islam got 1,412 votes, Jaker Party Candidate Emdadul Haque got 2,257 votes, and National Peoples' Party candidate Shafi Al Asad with 953 votes.

A total of 1,50,334 votes were cast out of 3,24,741 votes, according to the returning officer and also Rangpur Regional Election Officer GM Shatabuddin.
