India's education minister Dharmandra Pradhan resigns after youth protests

India's education minister Dharmandra Pradhan said on Saturday he had resigned from his post, after youth protests calling for him to quit, according to a Reuters report.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi reiterated the demands of student protesters, including the removal of Pradhan from the cabinet, The Hindu reported.

Speaking in New Delhi alongside three members of the All India Students' Association (AISA), the student wing of the CPI(ML) Liberation, Rahul said transferring Pradhan to another ministry would not be “acceptable.”

Separately, a two-member delegation of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) is expected to hold a third round of talks with the government today.

Party spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka said the venue had not been disclosed and reiterated the group's demand for Pradhan's resignation. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke said he had been diagnosed with typhoid.
