Ambassador Ruhul Amin dies in Paris
Bangladesh Ambassador to France Ruhul Amin, who suffered a stroke, died in Paris yesterday.
Ambassador Amin suffered the stroke while he was returning to Bangladesh mission after a meeting at the French foreign ministry Wednesday afternoon.
"Doctors earlier declared him clinically dead…He was kept on life support," a senior official of the foreign ministry told the news agency.
Foreign Adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury expressed deep shock at the death of Ruhul Amin, saying he was a brilliant and efficient officer.
He conveyed his sympathy to the bereaved family and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
Foreign ministry sources here said Ruhul Amin's meeting with the officials of the French foreign ministry focussed on the issue of the Bangladesh artefacts.
The government decided not to dispatch the artefacts to Guimet Museum in Paris for exhibition following the stealing of two Paris-bound terracotta statuettes from Zia International Airport.
After the meeting, Ambassador Ruhul Amin along with an officer returned to Bangladesh mission in a car, but the officer found him collapsed in the car. He was immediately rushed to a specialised hospital in Paris, the sources said.
They said the ambassador had been under stress over the artefacts issue for last few weeks.
