“Gohine Shobdo” wins award in Canada

Khalid Mahmood Mithu's debut feature film “Gohine Shobdo” has won the top prize in an international film festival in Canada, according to a press release. The film, which features an impossible love-story, won 'Best Feature Film Award' in the International Section in Okanagan International Film Festival, Vancouver, Canada. The award was announced on July 25.
Director of the film Mithu asserted that “Gohine Shobdo” is the first Bangladeshi film to win Best Award in Canada. Impress Telefilm Ltd has produced the film.
The focal point of the story is an apparently impossible relationship between Niloy and Swapna. Swapna is the daughter of parents who beg for a living. On the other hand, Niloy who studies at the same university as Swapna , belongs to an affluent family.
Niloy develops feelings for Swapna ,who tries to convince him that a relationship between them would be impossible -- the difference between the classes is unsurpassable. But an emotionally overwhelmed Niloy does not agree to reason, as he still does not know what Swapna's father does for a living.
Reality hits hard when Niloy finds out the truth.
“Gohine Shobdo” stars Emon, Kushum Sikder, Masum Aziz, Shams Sumon and Abul Hayat. Mithu could not attend the award giving ceremony, and Canadian filmmaker Vic Sarin, a family friend of Mithu, received the award on his behalf .
