Dinajpur MPs' role slated
The government representatives of Birampur upazila in Dinajpur and its seven unions alleged that fair recruitment of fertilizer retailers has been impaired under the political influence of local ruling party lawmaker Azizul Haque Chowdhury.
Birampur upazila Chairman and General Secretary of Birampur Municipality unit of Awami League Md. Khairul Alam, Vice-Chairmen Jannatun Nesa and Monsur Ali, Birampur Municipality Mayor Hossain Ali, and chairmen of seven union parishads brought the allegations of interfering in recruitment procedure and appointing lawmaker's party men ignoring the list prepared by the committees concerned.
Azizul, MP of Dinajpur-6, with Birampur Upazila Nirbahi Officer finalized the list of retailers on September 30 ignoring the applicants' list and recommendations made by the authorities concerned, they said addressing a joint press conference on Sunday.
Besides, they said that the retailers selected by the MP have no prior experience of fertilizer trade and urged the government to cancel the list prepared by him.
The MP had called a meeting on October 3, which was boycotted to protest his decision.
Despite repeated attempts the correspondent could not reach the lawmaker to have his opinion regarding the allegation.
Asked, Birampur UNO Md. Abul Khayer Muhammad Hafizullah Khan, also head of the Upazila Fertilizer and Seed Monitoring Committee, said every step in recruitment procedure would be taken in accordance with government policy.
He, however, declined to elaborate what he really meant.
