The Distressed Children & Infants International (DCI), Rights and Sight for Children (RSC), and Faraaz Hossain Foundation, have jointly organised a whole day free eye screening camp for the isolated underprivileged people of the country's northern region on October 26 2022.
A specialised team of doctors of Marium Eye Hospital, Saidpur provided the treatment to the patients.
The goal of the eye screening camp was to identify and treat those underprivileged people who were in need of eye surgery, medicine, or eyeglasses but were financially unable to seek treatment.
A total of 1,086 underprivileged children and adults received free eye treatment from the camp. Of them, 165 patients were diagnosed with cataracts and 378 patients with refractive errors and we provided 291 eye glasses from the camp
The rest of the refractive error patients will receive eyeglasses on 3rd November, 2022, at Gomnati High School.
They will be provided with corrective surgeries and eyeglasses free of cost. A total of 542 patients received medicine from the camp and cataract patients will receive surgery from the next day of the camp at Marium Eye Hospital, Saidpur.
The eye screening camp was held in memory of late Faraaz Ayaaz Hossain who exhibited extraordinary courage, amazing selflessness, and deeply rooted values as he stood for humanity.
Being a Bangladeshi Muslim, Faraaz was given the chance to flee, yet he refused to abandon his two dear friends during the Holey Artisan Bakery attack, July 1st, 2016. On that night, Faraaz chose to stand by his friends, to stand by a humanity that transcends the man-made boundaries of race, religion, and nationality.
He demonstrated the highest standards of moral and ethical values, which DCI strives to nurture in young adults through volunteerism and leadership.
Md Azabul Hossain Shah, head teacher, Gomnati Bohumukhi High School; Wahiduzzaman, senior deputy manager, Faraaz Hossain Foundation; Md Humayan Kabir (Rohan), project manager, Blindness Prevention Program (BPP), RSC served at the eye camp.
Officials from RSC-DCI, journalists, and distinguished guests from the local community also attended the program.
