2 liquid oxygen plants to be set up in Bangladesh: Health Minister

Two liquid oxygen plants will be set up in the country to improve supply of oxygen for the treatment of Covid-19 patients, Health Minister Zahid Maleque said today (July 23, 2022).

"We are going to set up two liquid oxygen plants aiming to take the medical sector a step further. One of them will be in Manikganj and the other will be set up in north Bangladesh," Zahid Maleque said at a day-long surgical skill workshop for intern doctors at Colonel Malek Medical College in Manikganj around 2pm, reports our local correspondent.

Addressing the function as the chief guest, the minister said, "During Covid-19 pandemic, medical sector needed a lot of oxygen. At that time, oxygen was imported from India due to a shortage. At the moment, 150 to 200 tonnes of oxygen are being produced in Bangladesh."

Director General (DG) of Health Department Prof Dr Abul Bashar Mohammad Khursheed Alam, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Abdul Latif, Superintendent of Police Mohammad Ghulam Azad Khan, Principal of Colonel Malek Medical College Zakir Hossain, Colonel Malek Medical College Director Dr Arshad Ullah, Municipality Mayor Ramzan Ali, District Awami League General Secretary Abdus Salam, Vice President Ad Abdul Majid Photo and others spoke on the occasion.

Later, the minister distributed certificates among those who participated in the workshop.
