Dengue fever: Cases cross 16000-mark, 246 hospitalised in a day
Number of dengue cases in the country has crossed the 16,000-mark with at least 246 new patients hospitalised in 24 hours preceding 8:00am today, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of the new cases, only 35 are from outside Dhaka.
With the new cases, a total of 5,866 were diagnosed during the running month out of a total 16,222 infected. Of the total infected, only 1877 are from outside Dhaka.
At least 7698 were diagnosed in August, 2286 in July, 272 in June and 43 were infected in May, according to the DGHS.
So far, 59 people have died of dengue infection in the country this year, all whom died in July, August and September.
Twelve people died in July, 34 died in August and 13 in September so far.
Among the deaths 54 have died in Dhaka division, two in Chattogram division and Khulna and one in Rajshahi division.
Though most of the patients who were hospitalised have so far been released, 1031 are still undergoing treatment at hospitals in Dhaka, and 195 outside the capital, the DGHS data shows.
