Police have arrested a couple in Bandarban for allegedly smuggling gold bars worth Tk three crores from Myanmar to Bangladesh.

The arrestees were identified as Md Faruq, 35 and his wife Mariom Begum, 26 of Naikhongchhari upazila's Ashartoli area, said Md Billal Hossen Sikdar, inspector (investigation) of Naikhongchhari Police Station.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team conducted a drive in Faruq's house in Ashartoli near Myanmar border at around 8.45 last night and arrested them with 28 gold bars and cash Tk 1.99 lakh, said the police officer.

The couple smuggled the gold bars from Myanmar, claimed the inspector.

A case was filed with Naikhongchhari Police Station in this regard.
