Covid-19 Update 20 more die, 1,335 test positive

Twenty people died from Covid-19 in the country in 24 hours till 8:00am yesterday, taking the total number of deaths from the virus to 5,838.

The death rate is 1.45 percent of all confirmed cases in the country, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

A total of 12,617 samples were tested during the same 24-hour period and 1,335 of them tested positive. The positivity rate was 10.58 percent.

With the latest detections, the total number of coronavirus cases in the country rose to 401,586. The total positivity rate now stands at 17.58 percent.

Bangladesh is currently in 18th position in the list of Covid-19 affected countries in the world in terms of most number of cases, according to the worldometers.info.

In the 24-hour period, 1,523 patients have recovered from Covid-19.

With them, the total number of recoveries went up to 318,123 which is 79.22 percent of all confirmed cases.

Among the 20 deceased, 14 were males and six females. All of them died in hospitals, said the DGHS press release.

One of the dead was aged between 11 and 20 years, one between 21 and 30, one between 31 and 40, two were between 41 and 50, three between 51 and 60 and the rest 12 were above 60.

Among the total 5,838 deceased, the highest 52 percent were from Dhaka division.
