Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has restricted the mobile network operators from offering 3G and 4G services in Rohingya camp area of Cox’s Bazar.
The restriction came into effect on Monday after BTRC issued a letter on the same day directing the authorities to comply with the order.
In the letter, BTRC also instructed the mobile network operators not to restore the services to Rohingya refugees in Ukhiya and Teknaf camps until further notice.
Besides, BTRC also asked the operators not to sell new SIM cards to Rohingya refugees.
Zakir Hossain Khan, senior assistant director of BTRC, said they circulated the notice following the government’s request.
Earlier, BTRC directed the mobile network operators to make sure that Myanmar did not receive any signal from operators in Bangladesh.
