Griezmann will be a legend like Zidane: Pogba

France midfielder Paul Pogba praised his team mate Antoine Griezmann’s performances in this World Cup and also said that the 27-year old ace forward is already on his way to becoming like France and Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane.

Griezmann is the top scorer for France alongside Kylian Mbappe in this World Cup as both forwards scored three goals each for Les Blues at the showpiece event but Griezmann also has two assists to his name.

“Zinedine Zidane is a legend and football icon and Griezmann is on his way to becoming one too,” Pogba told a press conference.

Griezmann has a chance of scoring in the final against Croatia on Sunday and emulate the heroics of Zidane, who scored twice in France’s 1998 World Cup final against Brazil. Pogba also admitted that he wants his team mate to follow the footsteps of Zidane and score a goal for France in the final against Croatia.

“He’s a very loved person in France, on the pitch he shows he’s a big guy, and I want him to score a goal in the final on Sunday.” Pogba added.

Pogba also said that he does not want to end up on the losing side in the final as he knows the bitter taste of defeat and do not want to make the mistake of underestimating their opponent.

“I know the taste of defeat and it's really bad, so we want to finish this tournament well,” he continued.

“I don’t know if Croatia has a disadvantage [due to tiredness], but against England they never surrendered.

“[In the 2016 Euros] we thought it was done and that we had won the trophy by beating Germany in the semi-finals.

“This time we don't want to make that mistake and we will approach the game differently.” Pogba concluded.
