White lion dies in Gazipur safari park
A white lion has died at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park in Gazipur.
The six-year-old crossbred white lion died last afternoon, Park in-charge and Assistant Forest Conservator Tabibur Rahman said.
The park in-charge said four adult lionesses were seen roaming around the white lion yesterday. None of them returned to their shed till evening. but later, the park officials brought the lionesses back to the camp.
Upon not finding the white lion in its shed, they went to look for it and found it lying unconscious, Tabibur said.
District Animal Resources Officer Dr Ukil Uddin said that the white lion was later declared dead.
After autopsy, the white lion's liver and kidneys were found to be normal and there was no sign of external or internal injury. Heatstroke might be the reason of its death, Dr Ukil added.
Another lion of the park, which is also sick, is being treated in a separate place, he added.
The body was buried in the park following autopsy. Multiple samples of the dead body have been sent to Dhaka for further examination.
The white lion was born by crossbreeding between the African lions brought in the park in 2013. Currently, there are 10 lions in the park.
