Tiger census cameras: 8 in Satkhira range stolen
Miscreants have stolen eight of the tracking cameras used for counting tigers from the Notabenki Sanctuary area of the Sundarbans Satkhira range.
Forest Department officials are yet to identify the culprits behind the incident, reports our Bagerhat correspondent.
Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) of Sundarbans Satkhira Range AKM Iqbal Hossain Chowdhury confirmed the matter this afternoon.
He said the Sundarbans Tiger Census 2023 has been ongoing using camera trapping technology. A team has been working to install cameras on trees in different areas of Sundarbans to track tigers, said the forest official.
Around 376 cameras were installed in Satkhira range, but eight cameras installed in Notabenki Sanctuary area were stolen, said Iqbal Hossain.
The matter has recently come to the attention of forest officials.
