Man held in Dhaka for selling birds online
The Wildlife Crime Control Unit (WCCU) of the Forest Department in a drive today detained a 22-year-old man from Basabo area of the capital for his alleged involvement in selling wild birds online.
During the drive, a total of 39 birds of different species and a squirrel cub were rescued from Basabo residence of detained Shakil Ahmed around 12:30pm, said Nargis Sultana, inspector of Dhaka's Wildlife Crime Control Unit.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of the forest department along with policemen raided the Shakil house, the official told our Savar correspondent.
Shakil has been selling the birds online in the capital and its adjacent areas for long after buying those from poachers in different areas, including Sylhet and Sunamganj.
Meanwhile, a case was filed against him with Sabujbagh Police Station this afternoon, Nargis added.
