“Large Indian Civet found dead on Kaptai road”
A "Large Indian Civet", a small carnivorous mammal was found dead on Kaptai Road under Raozan upazila in Chattogram today.
The mammal which was likely crushed under the wheels of a vehicle is believed to have died late in the night, said witnesses.
Masum Kabir, range officer of Rangunia Range Office under Chattogram Forest Division (south) identified the dead mammal as a Large Indian Civet which. He also added that they did not hear about the death of a civet in the area but confirmed the presence of a population in the nearby village homesteads.
Mobin Bin Solaiman, a local journalist told The Daily Star that he saw the animal lying crushed on the road when he was returning home in the morning from Chattogram city.
Large Indian Civet is near threatened in Bangladesh but globally it enjoys the status of "least concern" as per International Union for Conservation of Nature.
