Elephant tramples farmer to death in Netrakona
A farmer died after being trampled by an elephant in Netrakona's Kalmakanda upazila on last night.
The victim was identified as Nurul Islam, 35, of Sonnyasipara village in the upazila.
Quoting locals, Officer-in-Charge of Kalmakanda Police Station Mohammad Abdul Ahad Khan said a herd of elephants from Bedghora across the border came to Sonnyasipara area looking for food on the paddy fields around 9:30pm yesterday.
The incident occurred when locals, including Nurul, rushed to the spot to drive out the elephants.
Injured Nurul was rushed to Kalmakanda Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead, said the OC.
On information, police recovered the body and handed it over to the family members this morning.
