Dolphin found dead in Halda river
A dolphin (platanista gangetica) -- categorised as critically endangered -- was found dead in Chattogram's Halda river this afternoon.
The mammal was recovered from the river at Ramdar Munsirhat in Hathazari upazila, our staff correspondent reports.
Professor Manzoorul Kibria, a noted Halda researcher, told The Daily Star that it was the 32nd dolphin found dead since 2017.
"The corpse is decomposed, so we could not conduct any autopsy to determine the cause of the death," he said.
He said the dolphin's corpse weighs around 15 kg and it is three feet in length.
River Police and local administration buried the dolphin along the river, he added.
