Dead dolphin found in Halda River
Chattogram's river police recovered a dolphin from the Barua Para area of Modunarghat, along Halda River this morning. Halda River is known for its natural breeding of carp-like fishes in South Asia.
Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sadarghat River Police found the dolphin while on routine patrol in the river and recovered it at 10 am.
He told The Daily Star that the mammal seemed to have died a day ago.
"We saw it floating in the river. The body of the dolphin was found bloated," he said.
Professor Manzoorul Kibria, an eminent researcher on the Halda river, told The Daily Star that the dolphin weighed around 40 kgs and 59-inch in length. Halda lost a total of 30 dolphins since 2017, he added.
