Leopard dies after being electrocuted in Nilphamari
A leopard was killed after being electrocuted while trying to enter a poultry farm in a village in Nilphamari Sadar upazila early today.
Jesmin Nahar, upazila forest officer, confirmed the matter reports our local correspondent.
"The animal might have come to Bangladesh from Indian jungles by crossing border," the official said.
Reportedly, at dawn two leopards tried to enter a poultry farm which was surrounded by live wire, said Gorgram Union Parishad Chairman Mahbub Jorze.
The other leopard is still at large, he said.
Farm owner Aliar Rahman said he surrounded his farm with electric wire a few days ago so that animals cannot steal his chickens. He transmits electricity through the wires during the nights, he added.
Locals hung the animal's body after discovering it in the morning. Many people from surrounding villages came to see the leopard
Forest officials recovered the body after being informed and were preparing for an autopsy, according to the upazila forest office.
Monakka Ali, district livestock officer, said the wild animal might have come to locality due to lack of food.
