Members of Detective Branch of Police in Chattogram have rescued seven endangered geckos from illegal wildlife traders during a drive in Sitakunda upazila.

A team of DB conducted the drive in Kumira Convention Hall area last night on information and arrested five people alone with the geckos, our Chattogram staff correspondent reports, quoting Officer-in-Charge Tofail Ahmed of the station.

A case was filed with Sitakunda Police Station against five people this morning in this regard, the OC said.

The arrestees were identified as Nilchan Sheikh, 26, Ali Akbar Sheikh, 30, Imam Sheikh, 22, Jahangir Alam, 47, and Mukter Hossain, 45.

The geckos were handed over to Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Department of Chattogram, the OC added.

"Following handover, the geckos were released in nature," said Rafiqul Islam Chowdhury, divisional forest officer of Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Department.
