Tropa Majumdar stages ‘Baramkhana’ to honour Lalon’s mystic legacy

Renowned theatre troupe Theatre is set to stage "Baramkhana", a powerful new production based on the life and legacy of mystic bard Lalon Shah.
Drawing from Sunil Gangopadhyay's acclaimed novel "Moner Manush", the play delves into the spiritual and philosophical essence of Lalon's akhra—his vibrant space of music, dialogue, and resistance.

Penned by Pantha Shahriar and directed by Tropa Majumdar, "Baramkhana" marks the group's 41st stage production and continues its decades-long tradition of socially rooted performance. The play will be performed at 7 pm on July 19 at the Nilima Ibrahim Auditorium of the Bangladesh Mohila Samity.
The cast features veteran and emerging performers including Ramendu Majumdar, Tropa Majumdar, Tanzum Ara Palli, Tamanna Islam, Kausar Rajib, Abdullah Al Mamun Jewel, Rashedul Awal Shawon, Ismat Ara, Robin Basak, and Noor-e-Khoda Masuk Siddiqui.
Complementing the script are original musical compositions by Kartik, Bishwajit Bairagi, Tanmoy Ghosh, and others. The score weaves together traditional Baul influences with contemporary theatre sensibilities.
Shaiful Islam's set and lighting create a grounded yet poetic visual language, while Wahida Mallika Jolly designs the costumes. Choreography by Saidur Rahman Lipon adds physical nuance, and the production is managed by Khurshid Alam.
