Ahmed Sharif to receive lifetime achievement award at New York Bangla Film Festival

Veteran Bangladeshi actor Ahmed Sharif will be honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the New York Bangla Film Festival, recognising his decades-long contribution to Bangla cinema and his enduring impact on the country’s film industry.

Festival organisers said the award acknowledges Sharif’s distinguished acting career, powerful screen presence and outstanding contribution to Bangladeshi cinema over several decades.

The festival, jointly organised by Priyojon Films and Lemon Studio, will begin on July 30 with screenings of the short film “Bilai”, the documentary “Concert for Bangladesh”, and the feature film “Noya Manush”.

On July 31, audiences will be treated to the short films “Ishpite” and “The Internal Journey”, alongside the feature “Deyaler Desh”.

The festival’s third day will feature the short films “American Dream” and “Eid Mubarak”, as well as the feature films “Bishwas Koren Bhai” and Prasun Rahman’s “Shekor”.

Ahmed Sharif will receive the lifetime achievement honour during the festival’s closing ceremony on August 2 at the Jamaica Performing Arts Center in New York.

The closing event will also recognise achievements in Bangla cinema from 2023 to 2025, presenting awards across 20 categories, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Singer and several technical awards.

The ceremony is expected to bring together filmmakers, actors, cultural personalities and cinema enthusiasts from Bangladesh and the Bangladeshi diaspora.
