Ekushey book fair will encompass Suhrawardi Udyan

Alongside Bangla Academy premises, the month-long Ekushey book fair will also take place inside the Suhrawardy Udyan this year, Prof Shamsuzzaman Khan, director general of the academy, said yesterday.
The organiser took the decision following requests from publishers so that more publishers can take part in the biggest book fair of the country which begins on February 1, Shamsuzzaman told The Daily Star after an inter-ministerial meeting on the fair.
The meeting was held at Bangla Academy yesterday with Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor in the chair.
Only private publishers will get stalls in the udyan while state-owned publication houses will get stalls on the academy premises, the DG added.
“We are expecting to allocate around 400 stalls inside the park,” he said.
Bangla Academy has been organising the book fair in Februarys since 1972.
