Regent Group Chairman Md Shahed has been handed over to Rab after the elite force was given the charge of investigation of a case filed over Covid-19 test report forgery.

The Home Ministry approved Rab's appeal for it a couple of days ago.

"We took Shahed in our custody as we are now investigating the case," Lt Col Ashique Billah, Rab's Legal and Media wing director, told The Daily Star.

Earlier detective branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police was tasked with the investigation and Shahed was on a 10-day remand in their custody.

Rab arrested Shahed from Satkhira on July 15 while he was trying to leave the country through border.

On July 7, a Rab assisted mobile court led by executive magistrate Sarwoer Alam sealed off Regent group head office and its hospital on charge of issuing several thousand Covid-19 fake reports and charging patients for test and treatment, violating an agreement with government.
