A brick kiln which was built on land grabbed from a canal was demolished by upazila administration at Baharchara union in Chattogram's Banshkhali upazila today.
Momena Akther, Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Banshkhali upazila, led the drive. The owner of the brick kiln was also fined for polluting environment.
Afzarul Islam, assistant director of Chattogram DoE (district), told The Daily Star the brick kiln was built on 100 feet of land grabbed from Jolkodor canal of Rotnapur village in Baharchara union of the upazila.
On information, Banshkhali upazila administration launched a drive to pull down the kiln and also fined the perpetrators Tk one lakh yesterday, he said.
Apart from this, they also seized a power tiller, an excavator and other construction material like cement and metal rods which were sold in an auction, he added.
