Tourist spots in Rangamati reopen after 5 months
After five months of closure, the tourist spots in Rangamati have been reopened for the public.
The district administration on August 22 reopened the tourist spots including Shuvolong waterfall, Hanging Bridge and Polwell Park. Apart from this, all the hotels and motels in the tourist spot areas have been reopened.
Everyone is now trying to recover from the loss caused by lockdown after reopening of the tourist spots and hotels and motels.
However, visitors can visit the sites only on some conditions, which include maintaining health guidelines, hygiene, and social distancing, said Muhammad Mamunur Rashid, deputy commissioner (DC) of Rangamati.
Following the outbreak of the coronavirus, the recreation centres were closed from March 18 to contain the spread of the virus, he said.
Locals said visitors from different parts of the country have thronged the tourist spots during Friday, Saturday and Sunday as the three days were official holiday. At that time, the recreation centres have regained its life once again.
Srijan Bikash Barua, manager of Rangamati Parjatan Corporation, said they have incurred a loss of about Tk one crore in the last five months due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The tourists have started coming from different parts of the country again after reopening of the recreation centres, he said.
"Hopefully we will r ecover the financial losses caused by the shutdown in the next few months," said the manager.
All the tourist spots in the district have been reopened as per the government's decision, said the DC, adding that those who will visit Rangamati during the time will have to follow the health guidelines.
Meanwhile, the eye-catching Sajek Valley–where hills touch the sky—in Baghaichhari upazila will be reopened today. However, all the tourist spots in the district were reopened on August 22 after five months of closure.
Suparna Dev Barman, president of the Sajek Cottage Owners' Association, said the owners of all the resorts in Sajek are taking preparation to welcome the tourists.
However, everyone will have to maintain distance and follow health guidelines while visiting the resorts, he said.
