Suspected drug peddler jumps into Karatoya River to avoid arrest, body recovered
Body of an alleged drug peddler has been recovered by locals, a day after he jumped into the Karatoya River to avoid police arrest.
The deceased Mostafizar Rahman Masum (35) was a resident of Baridarpara village in Bogura's Shibganj upazila, reports our correspondent quoting police.
Locals found Masum's body at Mahasthangarh's Akandapara area this noon and recovered it at 1:30pm, said SM Badiuzzaman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Shibganj Police Station.
On Sunday evening, Masum ran away when police went to Nayapara area to nab him, said locals. They said Masum later jumped into the Karatoya River to avoid arrest.
Fire officials conducted rescue operation there but did not find Masum till this noon.
Contacted, OC Badiuzzaman said Masum was accused in seven drug related cases filed with Bogura Sadar and Shibganj police stations.
He said they went to Nayapara area to catch another drug peddler Nayon.
Masum fled the scene sensing police presence and jumped into the nearby Karatoya River during the raid to avoid arrest, added the OC.
The body was sent to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
