Salma Qadir, CEO of RSC, passes away
Salma Qadir, CEO of Rights & Sight for Children (RSC) and Country Coordinator of Distressed Children & Infants International (DCI) for Bangladesh, passed away on August 2 at 11:00pm at her Dhaka home after suffering from motor neuron disease for a short time. She was only 57.
Salma Qadir was born in Barishal city on September 29, 1963. She attended Dhaka University, graduating in 1986. Salma worked tirelessly to develop and implement multiple programmes for underprivileged people in Bangladesh and at the same time nurtured many future non-profit leaders.
Salma represented RSC in the national and international forums. She gave a memorable speech at DCI's International Conference on Child Rights & Sight at Yale University on October 14, 2015. She was admired and respected by all RSC & DCI members, donors, and peers across the country and internationally and will be remembered for her dedication, passion, honesty, commitment, extraordinary determination and love for children.
"Salma embodied everything that is best about RSC -- professionalism, commitment, and compassion. It was truly a pleasure working with her. She will be deeply missed," shared Dr Muhammad Abdul Mazid, Chairman, Rights & Sight for Children (RSC).
DCI President Dr Brian DeBroff echoed Dr Mazid, saying, "The loss of Salma is truly a sad event. She was a person who always had a smile on her face and was always determined to execute any tough task given, available 24 hours a day for any concern/any discussion!"
DCI Founder and Honorary Executive Director, Dr Ehsan Hoque, mourned her loss, saying, "DCI lost one of its best friends today. She was absolutely vital for setting up DCI projects in Bangladesh. Without her dedication and hard work, it would not have been possible for DCI to come to this stage today. The work that DCI and RSC do today on behalf of impoverished children would not be possible without her support, dedication, hard work, commitment and collaboration. Personally, I have lost a true, honest, and genuine friend. I never saw such a gentle and humble person in my life. I will be grateful to her forever for her constant support, inspiration, and encouragement to our mission for helping children in need."
