Road accidents kill 11 in Dinajpur and Mymensingh
Eleven people, including two children, were killed in three separate incidents of road crashes in Dinajpur and Mymensingh districts.
In Dinajpur, seven people were killed as a bus of Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) hit a rickshaw-van on Dinajpur-Pahchagarh highway at Pochishmile in Birganj upazila around 2:30pm, police said.
Four passengers of the van died on the spot while three others died on way to Birganj Upazila Health Complex and M Abdur Rahim Medical College Hospital in Dinajpur Sadar, our local correspondent reports quoting locals.
The deceased are: Nasrin Begum (50) and her daughter Rupa Khatun (8) of Birganj upazila; Abul Hossain (60) and his wife Asma Khatun (45) and granddaughter Namia Khatun (8) of Kaharol upazila; Nargis Akhter (35) of Birganj upazila and the rickshaw van driver (name could not be known).
Dinajpur Dosmail Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge JM Nur confirmed the incident.
In Mymensingh, four people including two siblings were killed and three others injured in separate road accidents last night and early today.
Two of the deceased are: Joy Morshed Tusher (32) and his younger brother Jaber Morshed Akash (30), residents of Jamalpur.
One of the road accidents took place on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Bhaluka upazila when a covered van hit a Dhaka-bound private car in which Joy, Akash and their parents were travelling.
Joy died on the spot while his brother and parents received injuries around 3:15am today, our Mymensingh correspondent reports quoting Md Hadiul Islam, sub-inspector of Bhoraduba Highway Police in Bhaluka.
The injured were whisked off to Bhaluka Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared Akash dead.
In another accident, a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver and a passenger of the vehicle were killed as a truck hit the auto-rickshaw at Merenga on Mymensingh-Kishoreganj road around 11:30pm last night.
The deceased were identified as Hanif Mia (22), and Ariful Islam (20), said Monsur Ahammed, officer-in-charge of Nandail Police Station.
